Junjou Egoist

A tale of a love lost and a love gained

Junjou Egoist focuses on the relationship between Kamijou Hiroki & Kusama Nowaki.

Junjou Egoist starts with the tale of Kamijou Hiroki’s futile, one-sided love for his childhood friend, Usami Akihiko, the writer in Romantica. Consumed by his unspoken, agonizing feelings, Hiroki sought to further his relationship with Akihiko by taking advantage of him after realizing that Akihiko’s painful one-sided love towards Takahiro (Misaki’s older brother) would never come into fruition.

Hiroki offers Akihiko sex to release his chained desires of Takahiro but in truth, it was only Hiroki’s justification to feel Akihiko’s warmth, hoping that Akihiko would take hint that he harbors feelings for him. To Hiroki’s dismay however, his plan backfired: both parties regretted their decision afterwards. While Akihiko was appalled at himself for tarnishing Takahiro’s name by embracing another, Hiroki’s love ended when Akihiko whispered his friend’s name. Akihiko’s fear of losing his friendship with Takahiro due of his emotions hindered him from ever confessing, a feat Hiroki all knew too well. Hiroki is after all, a prey of unrequited love.

Subsequently, Hiroki finds himself sitting in the park, speculating his intimate encounter with Akihiko. He thought that his embrace would have been enough evidence to illustrate his affections but as the after math portrayed, it apparently wasn’t. Because of his pride, he was unable to affirm his feelings. A lone, silent tear gently falls but before Hiroki could wipe the warm liquid off his face, a “rocket” fell in front of him, ultimately interrupting his crying session. Soon after, Nowaki arrives, weaving the very first strands of Junjou Egoist. And as his namesake, Nowaki hurls Hiroki into a “typhoon” that is seemingly impossible to get out of.
